Manuka Facts: What is UMF & MGO?

You have seen labels such as UMF 5, UMF 10, MGO 100+, MGO 200+, but what are they?
Actually, it’s a rating system adopted to grade your manuka honey.
UMF = Unique Manuka Factor (used by New Zealanders)
MGO = Methylglyoxal (Australians)
Both are used as ratings to determine the level of non-peroxide activity, anti-bacterial strength and properties in your Manuka honey. The higher the value, the more beneficial it is!
